honey from the rock.

rabbi lawrence kushner. he just does it for me.

i love this:

"To bring an entire people out into the wilderness where they could meet him. He told them of a promised land but it was never delivered. Not to them. How long do you suppose it remained a secret? Ten years? Twenty years? Thirty years? No one could be that naive. Sooner or later everyone must have understood that this Ancient Only God did not really want them to get there; He only wanted them to be "on their way". (Which is the wilderness. What's your hurry? Where are you going? To the promised land? The other side of the wilderness? You aren't going to live the forty years. Your feet will never splash in the Jordan.)

For you and me life is not going to change.

From oasis to oasis, there will be enough food and water to live.

Modestly.

A tent.

Content.

A pillar of cloud by day.

A chevrolet.

A frame house with a white fence and a mortgage.

A screen door banging shut from children with sneakers and popsicles in summer.

A fire at night to keep the wild beasts away."
