I'm wondering if we can agree to banish the word "outreach" from the church's vocabulary.

And the phrase "reach out to".

Honestly, I'm not sure there's another phrase that better reinforces the "us and them", "in and out" mentality of exclusivity.

Can't we just get rid of it?

"What word shall we use to replace it?", you might ask?

I propose:

"Love."



I am finding that there is no situation where "love" does not adequately replace the usage of "reach out to". If such a situation occurs, I would challenge that the problem is not with the word "love", but perhaps with the sentence itself.
